NSCAATV.com College Soccer Special: Louisville v UConn (men)
The Connecticut Huskies are hitting the road to take on the No. 7 Louisville Cardinals and the match will be broadcast live on the College Soccer Special on NSCAATV, airing Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. ET.
In his 17th season, UConn head coach Ray Reid has his squad peaking at the right time. Coming into this conference battle, the Huskies are on a seven match unbeaten streak.
In their last time out, UConn (6-2-4, 2-0-3) stuck a season-high four goals into the back of the net against Columbia. Forward Allando Matheson lead the charge by producing two of the four goals. Matheson now joins freshman midfielder Cyle Larin with five goals on the season.
The Huskies cannot only score, but they can also defend. Goalkeeper Andre Blake is a testament to this, as he posted his 30th career shutout and 40th career win in UConn’s last outing.
Louisville head coach Ken Lolla has seen his team score 23 goals while only allowing six. In the Cardinals (9-2-1, 4-0-0) last two competitions, they have scored three goals a piece.
Louisville is now on an eight-game unbeaten streak of their own, scoring three or more goals on five different occasions.
In their last match, senior Zack Foxhoven and sophomore Marion Hairston each had signature performances, tallying a goal and assist a piece. Foxhoven and Hairston are not the only Cardinal threats however. Louisville’s offensive production has proven to be deep as six players have multiple goals on the year.
The Louisville defense has been solid behind the play of goalkeeper Joachim Ball. Ball has allowed one goal in the Cardinals last seven matches with a .530 goals against average.
UConn leads Louisville 4-1 all -time since the squads’ last meeting in 2008. Dean Linke and Keith Tabatznik are on the call for Saturday night’s game.
