The NSCAATV broadcast team is busy this week with three College Soccer Special games scheduled. The first of which is a Tuesday night men’s game, with perennial men’s soccer powerhouse Akron hosting Ohio State at 7 p.m. ET.

The Zips can enter Tuesday night’s contest with confidence, as historically the program holds a 26-6-3 series record against the Buckeyes, including a 1-0 win last October. Akron is also ranked No. 10 in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men’s national poll.

Akron is 5-2 overall so far this season under first-year head coach Jared Embick, following a 1-0 victory in its Mid-American Conference opener against Bowling Green. Scoring for Akron was senior forward Reinaldo Brenes, knocking in his third goal of the season. He had help from senior midfielder Eric Stevenson, who tallied his third assist of the year.

With his three assists coupled with three goals, Stevenson leads the Akron offense with nine points, followed by Brenes’ six points. Overall, the Zips have had the edge on their opponents, with a 144-20 shot advantage and scoring nine goals to the competition’s one.

In goal, freshman goalkeeper Fernando Pina has a 5-2 record with three shutouts and an 0.67 goals-against average.

The Buckeyes have struggled so far this season, entering Tuesday’s match 2-3-2 overall. Ohio State is coming off a 3-1 loss to Dayton on Friday.

Tapping in the lone OSU goal was freshman midfielder Henry Chancy, finishing from six yards out from a failed clearance. The goal was his first of the season.

Offensively, the Buckeyes are led by freshman midfielder Christian Soldat and senior defender Sage Gardner, who each have three points on a goal and an assist.

Seeing most of the time in goal has been junior keeper Alex Ivanov, who is 2-2-1 overall and has 40 saves.

Ohio State is led by head coach John Bluem, who is in his 17th year at the helm of the Buckeye program.

Game time is set for Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. ET, with Dean Linke and Keith Tabatznik calling the game.
